This Privacy Policy explains how Seconds collects, uses, discloses, retains, and protects personal information when you use the Seconds application, website, marketplace tools, messaging tools, payment-related features, and support channels.

1. Personal information we collect

The information we collect depends on how you use Seconds.

Account and profile information

We may collect your name, username, email address, phone number, profile photo, account preferences, language, authentication information, and account status.

Listings and marketplace activity

We may collect Listings, item photos, descriptions, prices, categories, condition details, approximate item location, saved items, searches, messages, offers, purchases, sales, refunds, disputes, reviews, ratings, reports, and support interactions.

Location information

Seconds is map-first. We may collect approximate location, device location when you enable it, manually entered location, pickup-area information, IP-derived location, and location metadata needed to show nearby items and protect Users.

We aim to avoid displaying exact addresses by default unless a User chooses to share them or a feature requires it.

Payment and verification information

Payment features may be provided by Stripe or another Payment Processor. Seconds may receive payment status, transaction identifiers, connected account status, payout status, chargeback or dispute information, risk signals, limited card or bank metadata, tax information, and verification status.

Seconds does not intentionally store full card numbers when payments are processed by a Payment Processor.

Device, usage, and security information

We may collect device type, operating system, app version, browser, IP address, identifiers, log data, crash data, analytics events, fraud signals, security events, and interaction data.

AI-assisted features

If you use AI-assisted listing or draft tools, we may process the information, photos, prompts, edits, and generated outputs needed to provide, improve, secure, and review those features.

2. How we use personal information

We use personal information to:

  • operate and provide the Platform;
  • create and manage accounts;
  • show nearby Listings and map-based results;
  • enable messaging, Listings, reviews, payments, payouts, refunds, and disputes;
  • provide support and respond to requests;
  • detect, prevent, investigate, and address fraud, spam, scams, chargebacks, prohibited items, abuse, safety issues, and security incidents;
  • verify identity, eligibility, account status, and payment access;
  • personalize, measure, and improve the Platform;
  • send service, security, policy, legal, and support communications;
  • comply with law, tax, accounting, sanctions, payment-network, and processor requirements;
  • enforce our Terms, policies, rights, and safety standards.

3. Consent and choices

Where required, we collect, use, and disclose personal information with your consent. Some information is needed to provide core services, comply with law, prevent fraud, or protect Users. If you choose not to provide required information, some features may be unavailable.

You can control certain permissions through your device or account settings, including location permissions and some notification preferences.

4. Location, identification, and profiling technologies

Seconds may use technologies that identify, locate, or help evaluate User activity for marketplace operation, safety, fraud prevention, personalization, and ranking.

We may use automated systems to help detect prohibited items, fraud, payment risk, abuse, unsafe messages, suspicious account activity, and policy violations. We may also use automated systems to rank, recommend, or moderate Listings. Where required by law, you may request information about certain automated decisions and ask for human review.

5. Cookies, analytics, and similar technologies

Our website and app may use cookies, local storage, SDKs, analytics tools, and similar technologies to remember preferences, measure performance, understand usage, prevent fraud, and improve the Platform.

You may be able to limit cookies or tracking through browser, device, or app settings. Some features may not work correctly if these technologies are disabled.

6. How we share personal information

We may share personal information with:

  • other Users when needed for Listings, messages, pickup, delivery, reviews, reports, or Transactions;
  • Payment Processors, banks, card networks, identity verification providers, tax providers, fraud-prevention providers, and connected-account service providers;
  • hosting, analytics, communications, storage, customer support, security, and other service providers;
  • professional advisors, insurers, auditors, and business operations providers;
  • law enforcement, courts, regulators, tax authorities, payment networks, or other parties where required or permitted by law;
  • buyers, successors, or counterparties in connection with a merger, financing, reorganization, sale, or transfer of business assets.

We may also share information to enforce our Terms, protect Users, prevent fraud, respond to claims, investigate illegal activity, or protect the rights, property, and safety of Seconds or others.

7. International and cross-border processing

Seconds and its service providers may process or store personal information outside your province, state, or country, including in Canada, the United States, or other jurisdictions. Laws in those jurisdictions may allow access by courts, regulators, law enforcement, or national security authorities.

Where required, Seconds evaluates privacy and security risks before transferring personal information to service providers or locations outside Quebec or Canada.

8. Retention

We keep personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including to provide the Platform, complete Transactions, manage payments and disputes, comply with law, resolve issues, prevent fraud, enforce agreements, and maintain records.

When information is no longer needed, we delete, de-identify, or otherwise handle it according to applicable law and our retention practices.

9. Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or disclosure will never occur.

If we become aware of a privacy or security incident requiring notice, we will take steps required by applicable law.

10. Your rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to:

  • access your personal information;
  • correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • request deletion or de-indexing;
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
  • object to or restrict certain uses;
  • request portability of certain computerized personal information;
  • ask questions or make a complaint about privacy practices.

We may need to verify your identity before responding. Some requests may be limited by law, fraud prevention, safety, payment disputes, tax obligations, recordkeeping duties, or the rights of others.

11. Children

Seconds is not intended for children or for anyone who cannot legally form a binding agreement. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children where parental consent is required. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us through the available privacy channel.

12. Third-party services

Seconds may link to or integrate with third-party services, including Payment Processors and app stores. Those services may process personal information under their own terms and privacy policies. Seconds is not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material or legally require notice, we will provide notice through the Platform, website, email, or another appropriate method.

14. Contact and privacy officer

For privacy questions or requests, contact the Privacy Officer for Seconds through the contact channel made available in the app or on the website.
